Few Words About Me

I am a scientist

Welcome to my journey through the realms of pharmacy, genetics, pharmacogenomics, and precision medicine. I am wholeheartedly committed to advancing healthcare through my ongoing research and education efforts.
I am a fervent scientist and advocate for pharmacogenomics and precision medicine, especially determined to make their implementation a reality in the Middle East.
Over the past decade, I’ve dedicated myself to being a researcher and educator in biomedical sciences, pharmacological sciences, genetics, and pharmacogenomics.

Be Persistent!

My Academic Background

In the challenging year of 2020, amidst the global pandemic lockdown, I defended my Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences at the United Arab Emirates University. My dissertation highlighted the potential of pharmacogenomics testing in customizing drug therapies for patients in the UAE. This milestone work has been recognized in international journals and laid the groundwork for a grant that funded the first pharmacogenomic clinical implementation project.
My academic journey began with a B.Pharmacy from Amman University, Jordan, in 2002, and progressed with an M.Sc. in Pharmaceutical Sciences from Damascus University, Syria, in 2012. For my master’s thesis, I delved into the genetics of deafness in the Syrian population, marking my early commitment to the potent field of genetics. Yes, you’re reading the years right—it’s been a long postgraduate road for me, balancing a full-time job and taking maternity breaks, not once but twice!
I am a staunch believer in the importance of lifelong learning. As a passionate educator, I’ve sharpened my teaching skills, culminating in a six-month training program at the Harvard School of Medicine, where I immersed myself in the latest educational methodologies. This experience equipped me with an array of tools for teaching and mentoring, enabling me to foster the next wave of healthcare practitioners and researchers.

Thrilling voyage

Professional Journey

My research experience is quite diverse, with hands-on expertise in wet and dry lab techniques—from molecular and cytogenetic methods to sequencing and advanced genotyping technologies—and includes deep dives into bioinformatics analysis to glean meaningful insights from complex genetic datasets.
Since 2016, I have actively advocated pharmacogenomics and precision medicine, engaging with professional international organizations. Staying abreast of the latest in pharmacogenomics and precision medicine is a commitment I hold dear.
Another endeavor that fills me with pride is my work in medical and scientific translation from English to Arabic. I volunteered as a COURSERA translator and contributed to esteemed scientific publications like Nature Middle East and Science’s Arabic version, ensuring complex scientific concepts were accessible in my mother tongue.
From January 2021 to January 2024, I led an innovative pharmacogenomics clinical implementation initiative as a Postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Genetics and Genomics within the College of Medicine and Health Sciences at UAE University. I thrived on interdisciplinary collaboration, uniting various professionals to enhance patient care through pharmacogenomic testing tailored to individual genetic profiles.
As a research and education coordinator for the Golden Helix Foundation, I remain at the forefront of scientific innovation in precision medicine and pharmacogenomics. I’m a conduit for knowledge in my field, constantly seeking and embracing new collaborative opportunities. My dedication to advancing precision medicine is steadfast, and I strive to show how research and educational outreach can pioneer new paradigms in healthcare.
